Method 1: Disable the Software Restriction Policy using a .BAT file

Step 1. Download the method1.bat file.
Step 2. Launch it by right-clicking on it and select Run as Administrator. When asked to confirm the action in a popup, you click Yes.

Step 5. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, you go to the following directory:

Method 3: Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection’s program-blocking feature

Note: This method is only for applied users who have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed on their computers.

Symantec Endpoint Protection comes with the option to block all applications on removable drives from running, and having this option enabled can lead to the “This program is blocked by group policy” error message appearing when you try to open a blocked application. If that is the case, you can easy fix this problem by simply disabling Symantec Endpoint Protection’s program-blocking feature. To do that, follow the steps:

Step 1. First, you run the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
Step 2. Then you go to Application and Device Control > Application Control.
Step 3. Now you locate the Block programs from running from removable drives (AC2). Ensure that the checkbox beside it is not checked and empty. If the checkbox is checked and the policy is enabled, you need to uncheck it, meaning that the policy is disabled.
Step 4. Lastly, you save the changes and then restart your computer.
